NEGOTIATED PURCHASES SUMMARIES BELOW
DTN COMMENT: All is quiet in cash cattle country this afternoon with bids
and asking prices not established, and significant trade volume will likely
be delayed until well into the second half of the week. New showlists appear
to be mixed, higher in Kansas, Nebraska/Colorado, but lower in Texas.
New weekly weighted average highs were set again this week: TX 222.00(+1.88);
KS 222.32(+1.79); NE 367.38(+5.30); IA 369.30(+8.05). The difference from the
prior weekly weighted average high is listed in parentheses.
Today's slaughter totaled 115,000 head, not comparable to last week's holiday
kill, and 3,000 lower than a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply higher
on both live (up 107 to 180), and feeder (up 287 to 355) contracts. Beef
cutouts are expected to close mixed with light to moderate box movement.
